There are not many traditional crafts identified specifically with Lisbon, but this does not mean that there is not a vibrant crafts scene. The crafts produces are mostly of a more modern variety, and can be found especially in the quirky little shops in Chiado and Bairro Alto.
Special mention should be made of A Vida Portuguesa, in Rua Anchieta 11 in Chiado (Open Mondays to Saturdays 10:00 to 20:00, Tel: 213 465 073). Opened by a very active campaigner (and incidentally, a member of a very interesting family, being the sister of two important politicians on opposite sides of the political spectrum) for traditional Portuguese activities (she is also responsible for the antique kiosks in, for example, Praça de Camões and Principe Real), this shop not only displays a wide range of interesting arts and crafts, but also Portuguese products still being manufactured, but which time seems to have forgotten.
Another venue for obtaining arts and crafts are markets, such as the one held in the Jardim da Estrela every first weekend of each month between 09:00 and 19:00 (the tram 28 stops right in front of it, and the garden and the neighbouring Basílica da Estrela are both also well worth visiting).
In the Lisboa Welcome Centre, just off Praça do Comércio in Rua do Arsenal 25, there is a craft store (Tel: 210 312 820) open between 10:00 to 18:00, which offers a nice mix of traditional and modern crafts available, ranging from woven pieces to bobbin lace to ceramics to paintings to sculptures.
