Fátima Weather |
Fátima shares in the excellent weather Portugal generally enjoys. Being relatively close to the Atlantic Ocean, it has a moderate climate, never reaching the extremes that other parts of the country can experience. One should, however, bear the differences between the seasons in mind when planning a trip. For a really quiet visit one should consider March and April, when the minimum temperatures at night are usually in excess of 10º C, the maximums generally touch 20º C and there is less rain than in winter. Off-season rates in these months are of course another big attraction. Pilgrim wanting to attend the celebrations between May and October are in luck, as this also just happens to be the perfect time weather wise. May and June and September are in fact often considered the best months in most regions of Portugal, so if you were combining Fátima with other areas in Portugal these months would seem to be ideal. There is practically no rain then and it is warm without being as hot as it can get later. The average maximum daily temperatures in May and June are between 22º C and 24º C and in September almost 26º C, and the lows at night should not drop below 14º C. In May one still also enjoys the last flush of spring. Visitors from colder climes, however, seem to revel in the hottest months of July and August. It helps that Fátima does not suffer the extremes of other regions: The average maximum temperature here is just a little above 26º C and rain is extremely rare. Perfect weather for combining your trip to Fátima with visits to the nearby beaches. Towards the end of October one has more rain, but the temperatures are still fine, with minima of 15º C at night and maximum temperatures in excess of 21º C. The rain in Fatima falls mainly from the end of October to January. In the winter the minimum temperature rarely drops below 8º C degrees, and the average maximum temperature is 16º C, although it is common to enjoy beautiful, sunny winter days with temperatures in excess of 20º C. The low season generally starts towards the end of October and extends until the end of April. Taking into account the other attractions you are planning to visit in Portugal, whether you wish to be present at the major days of celebration, the seasonable weather and the different rates in the higher and lower seasons you should be able to strike a good balance and find the ideal time for your visit. |
