Lisbon’s trademark blue and white hand-painted tiles (azulejos) can be seen in many of the city’s public buildings and are particularly impressive inside the cloister of Igreja de Sao Vicente de Fora. You can find more modern porcelain murals within many of the Lisbon’s underground metro stations or, better still, at the Museu Nacional de Azulejo, one of the best museums in the city. Other spectacular tiles can be found at the Casa do Alentejo on Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, inside one of the restaurant’s grand dining rooms, or in Lisbon’s best known beer hall: Trindade, which has some of the best tiles in the Chiado district.
