Silk
Billed as the most exclusive club in the city, but worth trying to get in. Advance reservations are necessary. You take the elevator up to the 6th floor of this club in Chiado where you take a flight of stairs and prepare yourself to be impressed by the stunning room with 270 degree panoramic view over Lisbon. Cleverly decorated to make you feel part of the bright skyline, it is as if the city and the Tagus are there only for your enjoyment. A bottle of champagne would seem to be the most appropriate drink. Rua da Misericórdia 14, Tuesdays to Saturdays 22:30 to 04:00.

Bedroom Bar
Vintage style decoration and beds, cushions and bedside tables give it the appearance of a bedroom. But sleeping is one thing you won’t be doing at this fun and funky bar where the dance floor goes wild way past what should be your bedtime. Cinco Lounge
Near Príncipe Real, a classic cocktail bar that seems perennially fashionable. Fresh fruit based cocktails change according to what fruit is in season. Frágil
Mostly gay, but straight friendly, this edgy bar in the heart of Bairro Alto has set the fashion in music for decades. A landmark in Lisbon nightlife, songs having been written about it and films having been shot there. Open until the early morning hours. Rua da Atalaia 126-128, Tel. 21 346 9578.
